Exploring the Universe: A Journey Through Science Fiction with L.D. Lampley
How does the past—our past, Earth’s ancient past—shape my writing? It shapes everything. I’m endlessly drawn to the secrets history leaves behind, especially the ones whispered through time. That’s why I love weaving ancient mysteries into my sci-fi worlds. In Book 3 of Children of the Moon Queen: Loch Ness, you’ll meet a figure inspired by a real and haunting chapter of history—the Pictish people of ancient Scotland. The Picts were fierce warrior tribes who painted their bodies and terrified even the mighty Roman Empire. So relentless were they that the Romans built Hadrian’s Wall—a massive stone line meant to mark the northern edge of Roman rule and keep these warriors at bay. The Romans never truly conquered them. I love the Picts—their mystery, their strength, their refusal to be erased by history. And if I’ve done my job right, by the time you reach Loch Ness, I hope you’ll love them too.
